Write the book. Keep the whole story in view.

Author keeps your manuscript, your cast and the strands woven through the book. From them it works out where every character is, what they know and what has happened to them, at any moment, and eleven checks catch the seams. Your own AI can write with you.

The pictures on this page are recordings of the Author app with a test account. The book in them, The Keeper's Daughter, is a fictional novel made up for the demo.

How it works

One book, five rooms.

Five moments with one book, recorded in the Author app on a phone.

Recorded in the Author app with a test account. The Keeper's Daughter is a fictional novel: its people, places and pages are made up.

  1. Write a scene

Parts, chapters and scenes, each with its time, its place and who is in it. You write on the page; the facts of the scene sit beside it.

  2. See the strands

The plot, every arc, the mystery and even the weather are strands across the book. The timeline zooms from the whole book to a single evening.

  3. Ask where she is

Events change people. Author replays them in story order, so a character's place, injuries and what she knows are worked out at any moment.

  4. Let the checks catch it

Eleven rules run on every change: a man in two places at once, the dead at supper, travel that is too fast. Each issue takes you to its scene.

  5. Save it, share it

Freeze a version with word diffs, send beta readers a link to it, and export Markdown, DOCX, EPUB or a print PDF when it is done.

The story engine

Worked out, not remembered.

You mark what happens as events with their effects. Author folds them in story order, so the same book always gives the same answer, and every change says why.

  • Where a character is, what hurts, what they know and carry, their mood and relations.
  • Flashbacks, dreams and memories do not count for the presence rules.
  • Travel is measured against the routes on your own maps.
  • The checks are rules, not a model: nothing guesses, and undo brings a dismissed issue back.

Bring your own AI

Your AI writes with the book in mind.

On every plan, Claude, ChatGPT or Grok can work on your books through the Author connector.

  • It reads the facts first

Your AI asks Author where a character is and what she knows before it drafts a scene, so it does not invent what the book already settled.

  • It never overwrites you

Text you wrote in the app is only replaced when your AI read it first, and a version is saved before any rewrite.

  • You stay the author

It plans, drafts and runs the checks when you ask. You decide what stays on the page.

Write the book. Author keeps the rest straight.

Author is in early access, invite-only. Bring your own AI on every plan. Request access and we write back when your seat is ready.
