The manuscript and scenes
How a book is organised in Author: parts, chapters and scenes, their status and mode, time and place, word counts, and the four places of a book.
Cast
How the cast works in Author: characters, places, objects, weather and organisations, their roles, and how the state of a character is worked out.
Story
Events and state
How Author works out a character's state: events with effects on strands, folded in story order, plus the profile, the age from the birth date and the last scene they were in.
Strands, timeline and outlines
Strands for plot, arcs and weather; the board and the timeline that zoom from year to minute; story time versus reading order; and the six outline templates.
Continuity checks
The eleven deterministic continuity checks of Author, what each one looks at, severity, how to dismiss an issue, and what the checks cannot see.
Maps and travel
Pin places on a picture or a drawing of your world, draw routes with distances and modes, and let the travel check measure journeys against them.
Time and calendars
How Author writes story time: Gregorian and relative calendars, partial dates, approximate times, durations and relative scene timing.
